Weigh in was not as good as last week. I was down a whopping .1 pound. I hate weeks like this but then again, I did lose something!

Another busy weekend is ahead of me and I need to learn to save up some extra points to use during the week.

My plan is to use only 1/3 of my weekly points allowance over the weekend.

I am off to do some step aerobics!

It was a great weekend but tough staying on track. Weekends are tough because we like to socialize and that always means food will be involved.

I would like to be someone who can just order the salad and be a happy camper but I would be lying if I said that was who I am.

I like to cook, I like to eat, I like wine! I like to entertain and be entertained. Some how over the last year I have finally found a balance between continued weight loss while enjoying good food and wine.

Moderation is part of it but I also have found a way to make food choices that don't make me feel like I am in purgatory.

I love seafood so I tend to stick with that when eating out. I eat a side salad and do a veggie as a side. I skip starches but do eat a piece of bread if I really want it. It has to be really worth the splurge, I won't waste calories on substandard bread!

I do like wine so that is my splurge. If I have to have dessert I share it with my husband.

I don't think you need to cut out restaurant eating to lose weight. I eat out at least once a week and have managed to have a steady weight loss doing so.

I did get my workouts in this weekend as always. I am into step lately and did that today. Yesterday was a  circuit training dvd.

Weigh in was today, I am down 2.1 pounds! I seem to be on a roll now. I think part of the reason my losses are picking up is because they increased my synthroid. My dose has been the same for years and all of a sudden my TSH shot up above normal. That could be the reason for the year long weight gain/plateau

I have also gone back to stepping. I get a LOT of exercise points on WW doing step and since I like to eat this helps me earn more food. Funny how food can be so motivating to me.

Another reason I think the scale is moving down is because I have pretty much given up most carbs. I eat fruits, veggies, lean meat and the occasional slice of pizza or pasta. I use low carb/high fiber tortillas as well. I just find that this works for me. I wouldn't say I am low carb but I am lower carb for sure.

The weekend is going to be a busy one. I am going to see the local orchestra do Carmina Burana tomorrow night and Sunday is the National Wine Society wine tasting. We do one once a month with our local chapter. I love wine but have to limit it on the new Points Plus plan because it has so many points now. I do manage to work this carb in!

This is the recipe I made last night. I did some modifications such as using only one TBS bacon fat and I cut the olive oil in half. This recipe was worth every bit of effort

Serve it with some rice flavored with Cilantro

Too Much Weekend!

Saturday morning we hit the ground running and didn't stop all weekend. We had a healthy Saturday breakfast and then did a circuit training workout. My husband is my biggest supporter!

We went to the botanical gardens and walked around. There was an art show going on and the weather was beautiful. I got a good 2 hours of walking in.

We signed our taxes. BOO! and then decided to have Chick Fil A for lunch. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with fruit as my side.

The weather was so nice we decided to grill. I made chicken sate and an asian slaw. I also served some dumplings on the side. While the chicken cooked I had a cosmopolitan on the patio. What a way to end a perfect Saturday.

Sunday was spent going to the garden center and then planting. I am doing tomatoes in containers this year. It is an experiment. I am hoping that I get lots of great tomatoes this season! If not, the Farmers Market is right around the corner.

I decided to make cuban black beans for dinner. I found an authentic cuban recipe which included making a Sofrito. You cook the beans with a ham hock and then cook some bacon in a skillet. I added chopped green peppers, onions and lots of garlic to the pan after the bacon was cooked. Once the veggies are cooked and browning you add vinegar to deglace. This is added to the beans along with some spices and a tablespoon of brown sugar.

These were the best beans I have ever had. I am now addicted. The recipe did take some time but it was well worth the effort.

I felt good at the end of this weekend. I didn't over eat, I was very active and unlike many weekends in my past, I had no guilt at the end of it.

Weigh in day

I weigh in each Friday. I follow the Weight Watcher plan online and set my weigh in day for Friday so my Points Plus would start over.

Today I was down 1.5 pounds. Last weekend my son was home and the weekend was filled with food and fun so this was actually a pleasant surprise. I did watch my food intake the rest of the week and I added a mile walk to my daily exercise and it payed off.

I now have 48 pounds to go before I hit my goal weight. I think that is a reasonable goal over the next year!

This is one of my favorite restaurants. Thank goodness they have fish! The food is so good and so fresh. I promise that I will stay away from the pizza for now

Still trying!

I totally forgot I ever started this blog. Life happened and in a big way. I no longer live in Virginia and now live in Alabama.

The last few years have had a lot of highs and lows and of course I continued my gain/lose cycle.

I am on track now and intend to stay there!

I turn 50 next year. I want to be fifty and fabulous, not fifty and fat!

Follow me on my journey over the next year and see if I finally get to my goal weight.

My mini goal between now and the end of May is to lose 8 pounds. I started with a goal of 15 so as you can see, I am on my way!

I have a trip to S.F. and I would love to be in Onederland for that trip.

Here is the meal plan for the day

B-Egg beaters with 2% cheese, mixed fruit

L-Low carb, high fiber tortilla, tomato sauce, ff cheese, carrot sticks,

S-Frozen grapes, almonds

D-Tuscan kale and bean soup, red wine

Workout today is Step Aerobics and a mile walk around the lake with my dog Sammy.

I felt a little stiff when I got up but did Leslie Sansone's 4 mile Super Challenge and I feel pretty good.

The eating is going well, I hope to lose 40 more pounds over the next year. I have missed my last 2 WW meetings so I will be weighing in on Saturday.

Of course my WW card will be in the missed meeting box. I hate that they do that. First of all, I do have a life. People travel, have kids etc. I can't help but miss a meeting here and there. WW puts your card in this box and it makes you feel like a loser in some way! I pay monthly, it comes out of my checking account so as long as I am paying why put my card in the penalty box? It is just one of those things that irks me for some reason.

Aside from the above, I am a true believer in WW. As long as I am following the plan I lose weight. The problem is, I don't always follow the plan : /

A little motivation : )

This isn't going to be easy! Day 1, Week 1 C25K

I made it through half of day one! Oh my, I have to say, this isn't easy. I want to say I am terribly disappointed, but I am not. I got through 4 cycles and did a few laps of walking, 7,000 steps in all.

I will not give up. I will keep doing day one over until I complete it! It will be my own version of Ground Hog Day!

I definitely need to go get some good running shoes and I will need to make sure I get to bed earlier the nights before I run.

I will be back to post on Friday with the good, the bad and the ugly.

I want to be a runner

Specifically, I want to run a 5K. I have always dreamed of being a runner and now that I have lost over 40 pounds I think it is time to push myself beyond my comfort zone.

I have been walking with Leslie Sansone for several years. There was a time when I couldn't walk more than one mile but I am now up to doing 4-5 miles with Leslie.

One might think that this effort is not big deal but that means you don't know my story. I suffer from an autoimmune disease called Sjogren's Syndrome. I was always an exerciser but when I first got sick I couldn't do much but somehow I could eat! I gained a tremendous amount of weight and am down over 40 pounds now. This goal isn't just about fitness, this goal is about proving my illness doesn't define who I am. I will not let it!

Back to the topic. Leslie Sansone came out with a new workout that is 5 miles and has 2 minutes of boosted walking. Essentially, it is jogging! I am now rocking the jogging around my basement and I realized that my stamina has increased quite a bit. That got me thinking, what if I could keep doing this and become a runner?

I will keep you posted on my progress! Yesterday I did 4 miles. Each mile had 2 minutes of jogging in place. I don't stay in place. I run around my 1500 square foot basement as if it were a track. Total jogging time yesterday was 8 minutes. Today the total was 6 minutes. Tomorrow will be cooler so I will attempt to try the Couch to 5k program. Walk for 2 minutes, run for 90 seconds. Alternate this for 20 minutes. I am looking forward to it! : )
